The 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS has earned a notable spot in American automotive history as an early muscle car, helped by its iconic “Jet Smooth” design. Presented in stunning concours-level condition, this Impala 409 is a beautifully built and engineered machine, with an appearance that impresses from the outside, inside, and even underneath—it only gets better on closer inspection.
Motivation comes from a period-correct 409 cubic inch V8, upgraded with a roller camshaft and breathing through dual four-barrel carburetors to produce 425 factory-rated horsepower. The car also benefits from several thoughtful upgrades for performance and comfort, including 15-inch wheels, front disc brakes, radial tires, a larger radiator, and tilt steering. The braking and suspension systems have been refreshed with new brakes, bearings, lines, cables, and shocks, and a new wiring harness with modern fuses is in place.
Inside, the Impala features bucket seats, a center console, and extra gauges. A 3.36:1 Positraction rear axle rounds out the drivetrain, making this a powerful and significant piece of early muscle car heritage.
